Since my arrival in Tehran two weeks ago, I only had little time to explore Tehran. After settling myself the first days in the host family, we already went on our 8 day road trip through the country. So upon return I couldn’t wait to finally visit Tehran: starting with the cinema museum.
The cinema museum in the Ferdows Garden (Bāq e Ferdows) is located in the north of Tehran. It are these little gardens, with cute cafes, that give you the opportunity to calm down in this bustling city. The mansion that houses the museum is absolutely beautiful, which already make this garden worth the visit. Though, I would definitely recommend to visit the museum as well.
The museum mainly informs you about the Iranian Film industry: its history, the actors, directors and producers. Not knowing anything about Iranian cinema, this museum is a nice introduction. However, it was not the information I liked most about this museum; it was the atmosphere. The director and staff of the museum have perfectly captured the feeling of cinema: creative, free and fun. There is a lot going on in this museum – pictures, posters and old filming equipment – all artistically moulded. Even the exit is well-thought-out: the pioneers of the Iranian cinematography waving and winking you goodbye gives the museum a personal touch, which I liked a lot.
